Go to the field where the active field's value will be carried

When working with tax forms, it is common that schedules are used to enter the details for a summary line on the main form. The schedule will usually have a total line, or result line, that is carried to the summary line on the main form. This program provides a quick way to go to the summary line where the schedule’s result will be carried. When the schedule is open, and its result line (or total line) is the active field, the Drill Up button will go to the summary line where this schedule result value will be carried. If the summary line is on another page then that page will be opened.

For example: In the U.S. Form 706 (Rev. Aug. 2004) the result of Schedule A is carried to Page 3, Part 5 (Recapitulation), line 1. So that when the Schedule A’s Total line is the active field the Drill Up button is enabled. Pressing this button will open Page 3 and will activate Line 1 of Part 5.

The Drill Up button and the Drill Down button allow the user to navigate based on the data flow of the form. Using these buttons will reduce the need to manually open forms and schedules while working.

Note that the Drill Up button is not enabled for all fields. For this button to be enabled their must be a summary field where the active field’s value is carried.

To reverse the Drill Up operation you can usually use the Drill Down button to go to the result field on the details schedule.

If the Drill Up operation opens up another page you can use the Back button to return to the previously open page.

When the active page is a field worksheet you can use the Drill Up operation to quickly go to the field who’s value this worksheet is calculating. Just activate the result field of the field worksheet and press the Drill Up button.

An example of this is when a Details Worksheet is attached to an amount field to determine its value. While the Details Worksheet is open, activate the Total line field at the bottom of the worksheet and press the Drill Up button. This will take you to the amount field that the worksheet defines. Use the Back button to go back to the worksheet.
