If the active field is calculated then you will not be able to edit it directly. You will know if a field is calculated if, when active, the field is gray and does not except entries. By contrast an entry field will be white, when active, and will accept entries.
A calculated field get its value by running a calculation that uses the entries made in other fields.
How is this field’s value calculated?
To make an entry in a calculated field you can either:
1) Go to the source field from which this field calculates its value and make your entry. More
2) Override the field’s calculation and directly enter a value. More
We recommend that you do not override calculated fields. Instead we recommend that you go to the source field from which this field calculates its value and make your entry. You can usually use the Drill Down button to find the source field of a calculated field.
All fields show a specific background color when they are not active to indicate which are entry fields and which are calculated fields. In the picture below line 7 is an entry field and line 8 is a calculated field when using the default color scheme.
If this field is showing as calculated but you expected it to be an entry field, then perhaps there is a field worksheet attached that is defining its value. If so, then there will be a line in the Brief Help pane informing you that this field gets its value from an attached worksheet.
If a field worksheet is attached, pressing the Drill Down button will take you to the result field of that field worksheet.
Pressing the Add Field Worksheet button while a field worksheet is attached, will show a message informing you that one is already attached, and then ask you to open it.
