Active Field: This is the field on the open form page that has focus. It is the field that is ready for editing and input.
Active Case: The case file that is currently editable. When more than one case file is open there can still be only one that is active. The file name of the active case file is shown in the program’s title bar. The workbook tab of the active case file is brought to the front.
Attachment: A page that is attached to another page where the parent page can be in either a form, a schedule, a worksheet, or another attachment page.
Calculated Field: This is a field who’s value is calculated from other fields in the case. (more)
Case: This is a synonym for Case File. The case is the object that is contained in a file.
Case File: Files in the program are referred to as Case Files. They are not simply return files because they can contain more than one return. A case file contains one or more forms and all of its data. It is also know as the document. For information on working with case files click here.
Child Window: A child window is contained within the program’s main window. There is one child window for each case file in the program. In this program the child windows are maximized by default so that there is only one shown at a time. When not maximized a child window will have its own title bar. We recommend that you keep them maximized. (See View Options)
Click: The act of positioning the mouse cursor over an object and pressing the left mouse button.
Column Field: A field that is contained within a row. See the description of Row below.
Context Menu: This is a menu that is activated as a result of clicking the right mouse button while on a field, control, or other Windows element. Using the right mouse button should not fire a command but will open a context menu if there is one for that control. In this program context menus are used to provide direct access to the formatting properties of a field on the form page. There is also a toolbar button to open the context menu for the active field.
Dialog: A dialog is a window with buttons and fields. Usually a dialog is shown to collect input from the user. In this case you close the dialog and commit the changes by clicking the OK button. Otherwise click the Cancel button. A dialog can also be used to ask a question of the user or to inform you of some condition.
Document: In this program the document is a case file that contains one or more forms and their data.
Double Click: The act of positioning the mouse cursor over an object and pressing the left mouse button twice quickly.
Demo Mode: When a form module is installed that has not been purchased it is run in “demo mode”. This mode allows for free evaluation of the form module before purchasing. Demo mode has certain limitations.
Entry Field: This is a field that allows a value to be entered in it.
Field Worksheet: A Worksheet that can be attached to a specific field with the purpose of calculating the value of that field in more detail.
Form: A group of schedules and pages that is attached at the top level of the Case.
Form Page: A single printable page of a form or schedule. One form page at a time can be edited in the program’s Form Page pane.
Form Module: Each independent form has its own Form Module. Form Modules can be added to the program
Grid: A grid is a collection of fields organized in rows and columns. They are usually found on schedules where a collection of items are to be entered. For more information on grids click here.
Main Window: The main program window. It contains all case files, toolbars, menus, and other visual elements of the program. It’s title bar contains the program’s name and the active document (case file). We recommend that you keep the main window maximized as it is by default. (See View Options)
Maximize: To make a window as large as possible. For a main window this will make it as large as the entire screen. For a child window this will make it as large as the space in the parent main window. A window can be maximized either by pressing the second from the left button at the top right of the window’s title bar, or by selecting Maximize on the window’s command menu.
Menu: A menu is a drop down selection of commands. This program has a menu bar across the top of the main window. For a list of the menus in this program click here. Also see the definition for Context Menu above.
Mouse Cursor: This is represented as an arrow normally. But when over an editable text field it may appear as a vertical line.
Override: In order to edit a calculated field you must first override the field’s calculation. (more)
Page: This is a synonym for Form Page. It is a single page of a form, schedule, or attachment.
Pane: A window in the program that shows specific information related to the active document. For a list of the pane in this program click here.
Right Click: The act of positioning the mouse cursor over an object and pressing the right mouse button. The common result of this action is to open a context menu for the targeted object. (See the definition for context menu above.)
Row: A row is a collection of fields found in a grid. A row acts as a single group who’s members (column fields) can not be separated. But a row can be moved in a grid or between two grids. Click here for more on working with grids and rows.
Schedule: A group of one or more pages that are attached to a parent Form.
Tab: This is a button on a tab bar. See the definition of Workbook Tabs below.
Title bar: The bar across the top of the program window. It contains the title of the program and the active case file, if any. (Note: A title bar can also be on a child window if the child window is not maximized. This is not often seen in this program since the child windows are maximized by default.)
Toolbar: A toolbar is a collection of buttons that border an edge of the program. It provides direct access to commonly used operations. It is an alternative to selecting a menu operation. (more)
View: A window that shows a view on its document (case file). See the definition for Pane above.
Workbook Tabs: There are the tabs that show all of the open case files. They provide direct access to any open case file by a click on the tab for that case file. The active case file is brought to the front. (more)
Worksheet: An attachment that is used to provide more detail on determining one or more calculated values. Usually these are found in the instructions of a Form or Schedule.
WYSIWYG: Stands for What You See Is What You Get. Implies that the editing view of the page is the same as the printed page.
