Field worksheets are used to describe a field’s value in more detail. They are used in a similar way to that of schedules. A schedule is used to show the detail for a specific line on a more summary part of the form. In the same way, a field worksheet allows detailed entries to be used to describe, and calculate, the value of a field that becomes a summary field.
Attaching a worksheet to a field changes that field from an entry field to a calculated field. It will also enable the Drill Down button so that the field’s worksheet can be opened easily while the field is active. For more on attaching field worksheets click here.
When the worksheet attached to a field is removed, that field will change from calculated to entry. The calculation for a field who’s value is derived from an attached worksheet can be overridden. But in most cases it would be more useful to simply remove the worksheet attached to it. For more on attaching field worksheets click here.
A field worksheet will be shown in the Table of Contents pane as being attached to a particular field. When a worksheet is attached to a field in a grid row, then it will stay attached to that row even when the row is moved within the parent grid. Likewise, all worksheets attached to fields in a row will be deleted when that row is deleted.
There are both custom and general field worksheets. A custom worksheet is one that is available only to a specific field in a specific form module. A general worksheet is one that is available in any form module, and can be used for any field of a specific type.
Some worksheets will define the value of more than one field. For example, in the case of the Form 706 (Rev. Aug. 2004) module the Worksheet TG defines the values of both lines 4 and 7 in Part 1 of the form. So the Worksheet TG can be attached while either line 4 is active, or when line 7 is active. And attaching it to one field is the same as attaching it to both fields.
Only one field worksheet can be attached to a field. There are some cases where there are two different worksheets available to define a field. If you attempt to attach a second worksheet to a field the program will inform you that one already is attached, and it will ask if you want to open the attached worksheet. To change which worksheet is attached to a field, remove the first worksheet, then attach the second worksheet.
